News: Lies or Truth

There have been many reports of CIA intelligence officers changing media stories to fight their narrative. Our sources tell us that William Casey, C.I.A. director under Ronald Reagan, said: “We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.” (Durden). The article “Fighting The ‘Psyopcracy’” then goes on to report, “U.S. intelligence officials feed journalists disinformation to create a false narrative that is intended to mislead the public and cover-up what is actually taking place.” These 2 quotes from the article alone, should be very concerning for the American public. People watch and read the news and believe that what those news channels are putting out into the world is factual. After reading this statement it is clear that that is not the case. The news should be an unbiased and truthful source where the American public should be able to hear about what is going on in their country and in other places around the world. If the US government is feeding news outlets information that they want them to publish rather than the truth it is no longer truthful. One could argue that this is a violation of the First Amendment, free speech. If the government is telling news reporters what they have to publish even when it may be something that is untruthful and unethical they are taking away their right of free speech. They are controlling the narrative. This is something we saw with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The government told the media to push the narrative that the shooter was Lee Harvey Oswald. After further investigation the public started to find out ideas like the one that there was more than one shooter or that it could have been the secret service agent in the car behind President John F. Kennedy. Since the government told the American people that the perpetrator was Lee Harvey Oswald, the American public may never know the full truth.
